The short version
We use a small number of cookies to make the site work. Advertising cookies from Google do not load unless you allow them. You choose on your first visit, and you can change that choice at any time using the Cookie Settings link in the footer of every page.
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store. It lets the site remember something between page loads, such as whether you have already answered the consent banner. Some are set by us, some by third parties whose services appear on the site.
The cookies on this site
Essential (always on)
These make the site function. They cannot be switched off, because without them the site does not work correctly.
- ths_consent – stores your consent choice so we do not ask again on every page. Set by us, kept in your browser until you clear it or change your choice.
- WordPress session cookies – set only if you log in as a site administrator. Ordinary readers never receive these.
Analytics (off unless you allow it)
Aggregate measurement of how many people visit and which pages they read. We use this to decide what to write next. It is never used to identify you personally.
Advertising (off unless you allow it)
This site displays advertising through Google AdSense. When you allow advertising cookies, Google and its partners may set cookies to measure ad performance and to show ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. If you deny advertising cookies, ads may still appear, but they will not be personalised.
Changing your choice
Use the Cookie Settings link in the footer. It reopens the consent panel with your current choices, and takes effect immediately.
Turning cookies off in your browser
You can also block or delete cookies directly in your browser. Doing so is a blunt instrument and may break parts of this and other sites.
